# eth_getTransactionCount: parameters, returns and CU

## Summary

Return the number of transactions sent from an address (its nonce) at a given block.

## Parameters

| Parameter | Type | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `address` | `ADDRESS` | Account address to query. |
| `blockParameter` | `QUANTITY\|TAG` | Block number or tag: latest, earliest, pending, safe or finalized. |

## Returns

- **Type**: `QUANTITY`
- **Description**: Account nonce as a 0x-prefixed hexadecimal quantity.

## Notes

With latest only mined transactions count, while pending also counts pending transactions; a difference usually means there are unconfirmed transactions.
