## Summary

Return the network ID of the current network as a decimal string.

## Parameters

This method takes no parameters.

## Returns

- **Type**: `string`
- **Description**: Network ID as a decimal string (for example "1" on mainnet).

## Notes

The network ID and the EIP-155 chain ID are distinct concepts; they are often equal but do not have to be, and signing should use eth_chainId.
